Times Online Returns with Second Season of
‘Play the Game’ Fantasy Competition Powered by STATS
London – August 20, 2008 – STATS LLC, the world’s leading sports information provider, and Times Online, part of the News International newspaper group, publishers of The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and The News of the World newspapers, have commissioned STATS to run the hugely popular Play the Game fantasy competition for a second season.
Following its initial success during the 2007-08 Premier League season, Play the Game utilizes an innovative rotisserie scoring process that incorporates ten categories to reflect a players’ true value – so in addition to goals and assists, clean sheets and successful passes remain a key factor for game players. Building upon the strength of the football community, Play the Game delivers a platform for individuals to challenge their friends and colleagues, engage site blogs, discussion and debate. The game also acts as a key destination source for information on clubs and players in the English Premier League.
Zach Leonard, digital media publisher, Times Media, said, “Play the Game has proved a huge success and reflects Times Online’s commitment to improve user experience and valuable content for our audience.”
Scoring for Play the Game began on August 16th with game registration now open at http://playthegame.timesonline.co.uk. STATS will provide turnkey management of the game - including development, web hosting, technical operations and customer service.
STATS LLC is a subsidiary of two global media enterprises -- the Associated Press and News Corporation – and a leading fantasy sports provider internationally.
